Rising Starz Fitness News
It has been a great start to the 2012 year!! We are enjoying our visits with
our new centers and getting to know all of our new friends!  

In the late spring as the school year wraps up we will be doing Parent Watch
Days at all of our Child Care and Preschool centers.  This is a very exciting
time both for the kids and the Rising Starz Fitness teachers!  Please look for
information to come home soon about your school's scheduled day and time.

Lesson Plans
This month's Theme: Have a Heart! <3
Week 1: 1/30-2/3:
This week during warm-up kids will do lots of jumping!! Doing this will help warm
them up and help get their hearts pumping and blood flowing!

Skills that we will be working on this week:
Donkey Kicks, Straddle Rolls, Cartwheels around hoop, Arm strength skills
(working inverted positions to help with handstands and cartwheels), Kickwalks
on beam, Jump to straddle on mat, jump to a safety stop, Flexed arm hang on
bar, Straddle jumps or jumping feet apart together, plank holds for core
strength.

Class will finish up with a parachute activity today!
This week we will warm up to Mousercise!! Doing a fun aerobic warm-up to get
the kids movin and grovin!

Skills that we will be working on this week: Wall walking, Jumping over cones or
bumpers, Lunge cartwheel Lunge, Bridges for older kids and crab positions for
younger, Puppy tail kicks, Stepping or hopping over hearts on the balance beam,
Front support and casts on bar, Super kid rocks to focus on back strength.

This week class will finish with our "Exercise makes your Heart Happy" nutrition
lesson.  In this lesson kids will learn where their heart is, why it's important to
exercise to keep their heart healthy and happy and even see a picture of what a
real heart looks like!
Week 2: 2/6-2/10:
Week 3: 2/13-2/17:
Running in place, jumping jacks, jumps to get the kids heart rate up and letting
the kids find their heart to see if they can feel it beating faster!  Then finishing
up with positions and stretching.

Skills that we will be working on this week: Combination tumble down incline,
side cartwheels, skier jumps, straddle jump to a safety stop, forward roll to a
teddy bear tuck, donkey kicks on the beam, balance on 1 leg, swing over
alligators and land on 2 feet (hurdle practice), butterfly hold on bar, bean bag
sit ups for strength.

This week we will finish up with a fun activity of the teacher's choice!

Week 4: 2/21-2/24:
Teacher's Choice Warm-up this week!!

Skills that we will be working on this week:  Round-offs, cartwheel through hoop,
jump over ropes or bumpers, bear walks across the beam, jump backwards off
springboard land in a safety stop, skipping, glide swings on bar, v-sit spins for
strength.

Class will end with our "How does it Grow?" Nutrition lesson.  Kids will see
different types of foods and see if they can guess how the food grows.  In a
tree? On a plant? In the ground? This a fun way for kid to explore foods they
eat and find out where they come from.
